We spoke with Christoffer "Sunde" Sunde when he arrived at Arbalet Cup Dallas to play the second group stage.
mTw yesterday advance from their group in the first group stage, today they will play the second group stage, facing SK, Lions and Finesse. We got a hold of the mTw sniper to quiz him before the action kicks off.
Yesterday was group stage one, was it sort of a warmup for you guys?
The first group stage is normally not that tough matches, this time it wasn’t either, so it was nice to get used to the computers and the monitors.
Group stage two you have been drawn in group with SK Gaming, Lions and Finesse, do you consider it a good draw for your team?
I think it’s one of the tougher groups to be honest. Like at ESWC we had a pretty tough second group stage as well, I wouldn’t say it doesn’t fit us, but it’s a tough group, but i really expect us to go through in first place.
SK Gaming with moddii as a stand-in, is it no Gux no show?
Yeah I see it as a weakness without Gux in the lineup, moddii is a great player with aim and he makes those kinda movie frags. But without Gux they will obviously lack some team play and Gux is a great overall player I think, one of the best around at the moment.
Yesterday Lions played against compLexity, a match they looked to win at some point. Do you see Lions possible upset either you or SK Gaming?
There is always the chance for stuff like this to happen, but obviously we talk about Lions as a team, we expect ourselves to beat them without struggling. But they are not to be underestimated, though if they are going to upset, I hope it will be against SK. But still I see SK and ourselves advancing from the group.
Depending on the playoffs draw, you are likely to face Na´Vi at some point. No victories against them yet, what will have to change this time if you need a win?
I think if we look back at our first encounter at Arbalet Cup Europe, they really just destroyed us. At ESWC we met them again and they beat us first map, won second but then got raped on third. That match they won six out of six pistol-rounds and its just so hard to not let them build up their momentum when they win those rounds. In our minds, if or when we face them, it is all about the pistol-rounds and build up our momentum.
Somehow Na´Vi has kinda become our new nemesis, like Pentagram used to be some time back. But let us win some pistol-rounds and I think we will see a different match.
Evil Geniuses, complexity, Loaded, are there any other North American teams stand a chance against the European teams?
I expect the European teams to take top4 at this event, but obviously I think if EG play well, they can do some trouble in top4, but none of the others, I don’t really see that happening.
Who are you hope to be paired with in the quarter-finals?
Uhm, yeah it all depends on how the groups turn out. But obviously not Na´Vi, say we advance from the group, we will most likely face them in the semis. But Na´Vi is the team we should worry about and everything else we should be able to beat. I think we proved that lately, we have been playing really well, pretty much just Na’Vi stopping us.
mTw will face Lions in their first match at 18:00CET, followed by Finesse at 19:00CET and last SK Gaming at 20:00CET. You can find group standings for Arbalet Cup Dallas by clicking here and make sure to stay tuned for more content from the tournament.
